Installation Guide
-
Safety First: Ensure the engine is completely off and cool to the touch. Disconnect the battery for safety.
-
Locate Filter: Remove the engine cowl and locate the existing in-line fuel filter.
-
Prepare for Spillage: Place a clean rag or shop towel under the filter to catch any fuel that may spill.
-
Loosen Clamps: Using pliers, loosen the clamps securing the fuel lines to both ends of the old filter.
-
Remove Old Filter: Gently twist and pull the fuel lines off the filter. Be prepared for a small amount of fuel to leak out.
-
Check Fuel Flow Direction: Note the arrow on the new filter. This indicates the direction of fuel flow and must point towards the engine.
-
Install New Filter: Connect the fuel lines to the new filter, ensuring the flow arrow is correctly oriented.
-
Secure Clamps: Slide the clamps back into position on the hose and tighten them securely over the filter's barbed connections.
-
Prime the System: Squeeze the primer bulb until it is firm to fill the new filter with fuel.
-
Final Check: Inspect for any signs of leaks around the connections. Once confirmed there are no leaks, start the engine and check again.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm this fits my engine?
Start by checking the Compatible Engine Models tables on this page. For precise verification, use the linked guides to find your engine's serial number and cross-reference it with the listed ranges. Verifying the part number stamped on your old filter is also a reliable method.
How often should I replace the fuel filter?
For most outboards, the recommended replacement interval is every 100 hours of operation or at least once a year, whichever comes first. Refer to your engine's service manual for the specific maintenance schedule.
What are the signs of a failing or clogged fuel filter?
Common symptoms include the engine sputtering or hesitating, a noticeable loss of power, difficulty starting, or stalling at low speeds. The clear housing on this filter also allows for a visual inspection of trapped debris.
