2. Carefully separate the lower unit from the engine's upper housing, disconnecting the shift linkage if required.
3. Unbolt and lift the water pump housing cover to access the old impeller. Note the rotational direction of the existing blades.
4. Remove the old impeller from the driveshaft. Clean any debris from the housing interior and inspect the wear plate for damage.
5. Align the new impeller's keyway with the driveshaft and slide it into place.
6. While pushing down, rotate the driveshaft clockwise to correctly bend the impeller blades as you fit it into the housing.
7. Reinstall the pump cover and tighten its bolts to the specified torque.
8. Reattach the lower unit, ensuring the driveshaft and water tube align. Reconnect the shift linkage and secure the unit with its bolts.
9. Once assembled, reconnect the battery. Start the engine with a proper water supply and verify strong water flow from the tell-tale outlet.
