Installation Guide

Regular maintenance of your water pump is critical for engine health. Professional installation is recommended.

  1. Safety First: Disconnect the battery and work in a well-ventilated area.
  2. Drain Lower Unit: Remove the lower and upper drain screws and drain the gear lube into a suitable container.
  3. Remove Lower Unit: Loosen and remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the engine. Carefully lower it away from the midsection.
  4. Access Water Pump: Remove the bolts on the water pump housing and slide the housing up and off the drive shaft.
  5. Replace Components: Remove the old impeller, Woodruff key, wear plate, and gaskets. Note their orientation.
  6. Clean Surfaces: Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces to ensure a good seal with the new gaskets.
  7. Install New Parts: Install the new gasket, wear plate, and cartridge insert. Slide the Woodruff key into its slot on the drive shaft.
  8. Install Impeller: Align the new impeller with the keyway and slide it down. Rotate the drive shaft clockwise to help flex the fins into the housing.
  9. Reassemble: Reinstall the housing with the new gasket and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
  10. Reattach Lower Unit: Carefully guide the lower unit back into place, ensuring the drive shaft, shift shaft, and water tube are properly aligned. Secure it with the bolts.
  11. Refill Gear Lube: Use a pump to fill the lower unit with fresh gearcase lube from the bottom drain hole until it seeps out the top one. Reinstall both drain screws with new washers.
  12. Test Operation: Securely attach a water supply ("earmuffs") or test in the water. Start the engine and confirm a steady stream of water from the "telltale" outlet.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Q: How do I confirm this kit will fit my Yamaha engine?

A: The best method is to match your engine's model and year to our detailed "Compatible Engine Models" list. You can also verify your existing part number against our "Part Number Cross-Reference" table, which includes Yamaha and other aftermarket numbers this kit replaces.

Q: How often should I replace my water pump impeller?

A: For preventative maintenance, it is recommended to inspect and likely replace the impeller every 1 to 2 years or every 100-200 hours of operation, whichever comes first. This interval can be shorter if you frequently operate in sandy, silty, or saltwater environments.

Q: What are the signs of a failing water pump?

A: The most common signs include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, and a weak or non-existent stream of water from the tell-tale outlet port. If you notice either of these, shut down the engine immediately to prevent severe damage.

Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?

A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.

Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?

A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.

Q: What is your warranty and return policy?

A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
