Installation Guide
- Disconnect the negative battery cable and remove the engine's upper cowling.
- Shift the outboard into neutral and remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the engine midsection.
- Carefully lower and remove the gearcase to access the water pump assembly.
- Unbolt and lift the water pump housing to expose the impeller and other components.
- Remove the old impeller, wear plate, gaskets, and seals, taking note of their orientation.
- Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of any old gasket material or corrosion.
- Install the new components from the kit, starting with the gasket, wear plate, and Woodruff key.
- Apply a light coat of marine grease to the inside of the new pump housing and install the new impeller, turning the driveshaft clockwise to seat the vanes.
- Secure the new housing with the provided bolts and torque them to the manufacturer's specifications.
- Reinstall the lower unit, ensuring the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube are correctly aligned.
- Once assembled, test the engine using a water source (flushing muffs or in the water) to confirm a steady stream from the tell-tale port.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm this kit fits my Yamaha engine?
Verify your engine's model and year against our "Compatible Engine Models" table. This kit is designed for Yamaha F30 models from 2013–2022 and F40 models from 2009–2022. For specific model numbers, you can use the official Yamaha guides linked above to confirm compatibility.
What are the signs that my water pump needs to be replaced?
The most common signs of a failing water pump are a weak or inconsistent water stream from the engine's tell-tale outlet, frequent engine overheating alarms, or a noticeable drop in overall cooling performance, especially at low speeds.
How often should I replace the water pump kit?
As part of preventative maintenance, we recommend inspecting the impeller annually and replacing the entire water pump repair kit every 2 to 3 years or every 200-300 hours of operation, whichever occurs first. Service intervals should be shorter if operating in saltwater or sandy/silty conditions.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.

This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
