Installation Guide
Professional installation is recommended. The following are general guidelines and not a substitute for an official service manual.
- Disconnect the battery and shift the outboard into the neutral position.
- Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the gearcase oil drain screw to empty the oil.
- Remove the bolts that secure the lower unit to the upper engine casing.
- Carefully separate the lower unit from the rest of the outboard.
- Locate the water pump housing on the lower unit and remove its mounting bolts.
- Lift the housing to expose the old impeller. Take note of the blade direction.
- Slide the old impeller off the driveshaft. Clean the interior of the pump housing and the wear plate.
- Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft. Turn the driveshaft clockwise while pushing down to help seat the blades in the correct orientation.
- Reinstall the water pump housing, using new gaskets if necessary.
- Reattach the lower unit, ensuring the driveshaft, water tube, and shift shaft are correctly aligned.
- Secure the lower unit bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
- Refill the gearcase with new marine gear lubricant before operating.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
- How do I confirm this fits my engine?
- This impeller is designed for Yamaha 9.9 HP and 15 HP (2-stroke and 4-stroke) models. The best way to ensure fitment is to match your engine's model and year against the "Compatible Engine Models" chart and verify your existing part number with our "Part Number Cross-Reference" table.
- How often should I replace the water pump impeller?
- For preventative maintenance, it is recommended to replace the impeller every 2-3 years or after 200-300 hours of use. If you notice a weak water stream from the tell-tale outlet or receive an engine overheating alarm, the impeller should be inspected and replaced immediately.
- What is the difference between the 63V and 682 series part numbers?
- The 63V-44352-01-00 part number generally corresponds to newer 4-stroke Yamaha 9.9/15 HP models, while the 682-W0078 series fits older 2-stroke models (typically 1984-1995). Our aftermarket impeller is engineered to replace both versions, providing broad compatibility.
- OEM vs. Aftermarket?

Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
