Installation Guide
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Drain the gearcase lubricant from the lower unit.
- Remove the mounting bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) and carefully detach it from the outboard midsection.
- Unscrew the bolts for the water pump housing and lift the housing off.
- Note the rotational direction of the existing impeller blades before removal.
- Remove the old impeller, Woodruff key, and any existing gaskets or seals.
- Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the pump housing and wear plate.
- Install the new Woodruff key into the driveshaft keyway.
- Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft, rotating it in the correct direction to seat the blades.
- Reinstall the water pump housing with any new gaskets. Tighten bolts to the manufacturer's torque specifications.
- Reattach the lower unit to the outboard and refill with fresh gear lube.
- Reconnect the battery and test the engine using a water supply (flushing muffs or in water) to verify correct pump operation.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this impeller fits my engine?
A: First, check the "Compatible Engine Models" tables to see if your model and year range are listed. Next, compare your existing part number to those in the "Part Number Cross-Reference" table. Using our linked guides to find your serial number can help confirm your exact model and year.
Q: What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
A: The most common indicators include a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, or a high-temperature alarm sounding. Upon inspection, visible signs include cracked, brittle, or permanently bent blades.
Q: How often should I replace the impeller?
A: As a general rule for preventative maintenance, we recommend replacing the impeller every 1 to 2 years or every 100-200 hours of operation. More frequent replacement may be necessary if you operate in sandy, silty, or saltwater environments.
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
Important Notes
- Verify that the product images and specifications match your original part. If discrepancies exist—even if your model is listed—do not proceed with the purchase.
- This product is an aftermarket replacement part and is not an OEM component.
- Professional installation is recommended to ensure safety and optimal performance.
