Installation Guide
- Disconnect the battery and shift the outboard into neutral.
- Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the upper driveshaft housing.
- Carefully lower and separate the gearcase from the outboard.
- Locate and unbolt the water pump housing, which sits on top of the gearcase.
- Note the orientation of the vanes on the old impeller before sliding it off the driveshaft.
- Thoroughly clean the inside of the pump housing and the wear plate. Inspect them for grooves, warping, or damage.
- Lightly lubricate the interior of the new pump housing and the new impeller with a marine-safe grease.
- Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft while turning the shaft clockwise to correctly bend the vanes.
- Reinstall the water pump housing and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
- Reattach the lower unit to the outboard, ensuring the driveshaft and water tube align correctly.
- Reconnect the battery and test the engine using a water source (flushing attachment or in the water), confirming a steady stream from the tell-tale outlet.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm this impeller fits my Yamaha engine?
Check the "Compatible Engine Models" table on this page. Match your engine's model, horsepower, and year range. You can also use our Yamaha Serial Number Guide to find your exact model details.
What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
Common signs include a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet, engine overheating alarms, steam from the exhaust, or a noticeable drop in engine performance.
How often should I replace the water pump impeller?
For preventative maintenance, it is recommended to inspect the impeller annually and replace it every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of use, whichever comes first. This interval can shorten depending on operating conditions (e.g., frequent use in sandy or saltwater).
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9001-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
What is your warranty and return policy?
This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
