Installation Guide
For best results, use the dry application method. Professional installation is recommended. Intermediate skill is required for DIY installation.
- Clean the Surface: Thoroughly clean the cowling with isopropyl alcohol (70%+) and a lint-free cloth to remove all wax, grease, and dirt.
- Ensure Perfect Conditions: The surface must be completely dry. Work in a controlled environment with a surface temperature between 65-75°F (18-24°C).
- Position the Decal: Use masking tape to create a hinge, allowing you to align the decal precisely before application.
- Apply the Decal: Peel the backing paper away slowly while using a plastic squeegee to apply firm, even pressure. Work from the center outwards to eliminate air bubbles.
- Use Heat for Curves: For contoured surfaces, gently apply heat with a heat gun or hair dryer to make the vinyl more pliable and prevent wrinkles.
- Final Touches: Once applied, carefully remove any pre-mask tape. Use a sharp utility knife for any necessary trimming.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
- How do I confirm this fits my engine?
- First, check the compatibility table on this page. For Yamaha owners, we highly recommend using the Yamaha Serial Number Guide to verify your exact model and production year before ordering.
- How long will these decals last?
- Our decals are made from marine-grade materials rated for 5-7 years of outdoor exposure. Lifespan depends on environmental factors and care. Regular cleaning with marine-safe detergents and applying a UV protectant can extend their life.
- What should I do if I get air bubbles during installation?
- Small air bubbles can be fixed. Use a fine needle to poke a tiny hole in the center of the bubble, then gently press the air out with your finger or a squeegee.
- OEM vs. Aftermarket?
- This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
