Installation Guide
- Clean the lower unit and skeg thoroughly, removing any marine growth or debris.
- Slide the skeg guard onto your existing skeg to confirm the fit. Ensure it sits flush against the skeg.
- With the guard in place, use the pre-drilled holes in the guard as a template to mark the drilling locations on your skeg.
- Remove the guard and carefully drill through the skeg using the included drill bit.
- Apply a marine-grade sealant to the inside of the skeg guard and around the drilled holes to prevent water intrusion. This step is highly recommended.
- Place the skeg guard back onto the skeg, aligning the holes.
- Insert the mounting bolts and secure them with the included self-locking nuts and hex wrenches.
- Tighten the hardware evenly until the skeg guard is firmly secured. Do not overtighten.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this fits my engine?
A: First, check the compatibility tables to ensure your brand, model, and year range are listed. Critically, you must have at least 2-3 inches of your original skeg remaining for proper installation. For Yamaha owners, please verify that your skeg is not the curved model, as this guard will not fit.
Q: How much of my original skeg needs to be left for installation?
A: A minimum of 2 to 3 inches of the original skeg is required to securely mount this protector.
Q: What if my skeg is already broken?
A: As long as you have at least 2-3 inches of the skeg remaining, you can install this guard to cover the damaged area and protect it from further harm. It serves as both a repair and a preventative measure.
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 3-Year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
