Skeg Guard for Select Yamaha V6 & VMAX SHO 25-Inch Models
The JLM Marine model 1920 is a stainless steel, bolt-on skeg protector for the engine and drive applications identified by the reference checks below. It fits over the skeg below the lower unit to help limit wear. A damaged skeg must retain enough sound material to support the guard and its mounting hardware.
Check Before Ordering
Distinguish 3.3L/4.2L V6, 2.8L inline-four, 5.3L V8 and 4.3L V6 engines. VMAX SHO 25-inch X-suffix entries differ from 20-inch L-suffix entries. HPDI selection needs the full model: the source includes some HPDI entries, so a blanket “no HPDI” rule is incorrect.
Ask JLM Marine for a model-specific profile or dimension check before purchase. Gallery photos showing a different engraved model number do not confirm the contour or accessory contents of this model; request a photo of the matching model.

One stainless steel skeg guard. The listing identifies this as a mounting-hardware kit; confirm the current hardware pack with JLM Marine if bolt sizes, tools or a drill bit are required. Shared gallery photos should not be used as a model-specific packing list.
Before Installation
- Keep the engine off and the boat secure. Follow the engine and kit instructions.
- Check the guard profile, seating and mounting position before drilling. Do not force a mismatched guard into place.
- Use the drilling size, fasteners and tightening procedure specified for the actual kit; generic instructions may not apply.
- Do not install on a cracked gearcase or a skeg with insufficient sound material. Ask a qualified marine technician if damage or fit is uncertain.
This guard does not guarantee protection from collisions, restore a structurally damaged lower unit or guarantee improved steering or speed.
