Installation Guide

Professional installation is recommended. The general steps below are for reference only.

1. Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the drain and vent screws to let the gear lube drain completely.
2. Remove the bolts securing the lower unit to the engine and carefully lower it.
3. Remove the propeller assembly.
4. Unscrew the bearing carrier retainer or bolts, and use a puller tool to remove the bearing carrier housing.
5. Carefully pry out the old oil seal(s) from the housing, taking care not to scratch the inner surface.
6. Clean the seal cavity thoroughly.
7. Lubricate the new seal with marine grease and press it squarely into the housing using a seal driver or appropriate socket.
8. Reinstall the bearing carrier, propeller, and lower unit, using new gaskets where required.
9. Refill the lower unit with fresh gear lube until it flows from the upper vent hole, then reinstall both screws.
