Installation Guide
Always consult your service manual for detailed instructions specific to your engine model. Professional installation is recommended.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent accidental starting.
- Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the gear lube drain screw to drain the oil.
- Remove the mounting bolts that secure the lower unit (gearcase) to the outboard's upper casing.
- Carefully lower and remove the gearcase from the driveshaft housing. The driveshaft will come out with it.
- Locate the water pump and unscrew the four bolts holding the housing in place.
- Slide the water pump housing up and off the driveshaft, then remove the impeller, wear plate, and old gaskets. Note the rotational direction of the old impeller fins.
- Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the pump base and housing, removing any old gasket material or debris.
- Install the new gasket, wear plate, and insert cup. Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft, ensuring the key is in place.
- Apply a light coat of marine grease to the inside of the new housing and carefully install it over the impeller. You may need to turn the driveshaft clockwise to help the fins fold correctly.
- Secure the housing with the new bolts, tightening them to the manufacturer-specified torque in a crisscross pattern.
- Reinstall the lower unit, ensuring the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube align correctly. Fasten the mounting bolts.
- Refill the lower unit with the correct gear lube, reinstall the battery cable, and test the engine in water to confirm a strong, steady stream from the tell-tale outlet.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this kit fits my Yamaha engine?
A: The surest method is to match your engine's model and year to the "Compatible Engine Models" table. This kit is designed for a wide range of Yamaha 4-Stroke models including the F75, F90, F115, and others from 2004 and up (excluding 115B models). Cross-referencing your old part number with the OEM number 68V-W0078-01-00 or 68V-W0078-00-00 will also guarantee a correct fit.
Q: What are the common signs of a failing water pump impeller?
A: A failing impeller will compromise the engine's cooling system. Key signs include a weak or inconsistent water stream from the engine's tell-tale outlet, the engine overheating or triggering an alarm, and in some cases, a steam-like exhaust. If you notice any of these symptoms, inspect your water pump immediately.
Q: How often should this water pump kit be replaced?
A: As a preventative maintenance measure, we recommend inspecting the impeller annually and replacing the entire water pump kit every 1 to 2 years or every 100-200 hours of operation. Replacement frequency should be increased if the engine is used frequently in saltwater or in water with heavy sediment.
Q: Is this an OEM part or an aftermarket replacement?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
