Identify the sensor by form as well as by number. The unit is a one-piece moulded black plastic body with a cylindrical probe barrel, a pre-fitted brown O-ring on the barrel, a single flat mounting ear with a metal bushing for one retaining bolt, and a side-facing sealed electrical connector with a locking tab. If your original sensor looks different or carries an unrelated Mercury number, do not use this part even if the horsepower overlaps.

Installation Guide
- 1Turn the ignition off and disconnect the negative battery cable before touching any engine wiring.
- 2Locate the sensor in the cylinder head or camshaft cover using your engine parts diagram, then release the locking tab and unplug the harness connector.
- 3Remove the single retaining bolt from the mounting ear and withdraw the old sensor straight out of its bore. Confirm the old O-ring comes out with it and is not left inside the head.
- 4Wipe the bore clean of oil and debris, compare the old and new sensors side by side, and lightly lubricate the new O-ring with clean engine oil.
- 5Push the new sensor fully home without twisting the O-ring, align the mounting ear, then fit and tighten the bolt to the torque given in your Mercury service manual.
- 6Reconnect the harness until the latch clicks, reconnect the battery, clear stored fault codes with a marine diagnostic tool if needed, then start the engine and confirm a steady idle and clean throttle response.
