Installation Guide
- Disconnect the battery and remove the engine cover. Locate the lower unit and the water pump housing.
- Remove the bolts securing the lower unit and carefully separate it from the upper casing.
- Unscrew the bolts on the water pump housing to access the impeller. Note the orientation of the old components.
- Remove the old impeller, gasket, o-ring, and key. Clean any debris or corrosion from the housing interior.
- Apply a lubricant such as silicone grease, glycerine, or dish soap to the inside of the housing and to the new impeller.
- Install the new impeller key into the driveshaft. Slide the new impeller onto the shaft, turning it in the direction of engine rotation to bend the vanes correctly.
- Place the new o-ring and gasket into position.
- Securely fasten the water pump housing and reassemble the lower unit to the engine.
- Once assembled, start the engine in water and verify a steady stream of water from the engine's tell-tale outlet.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: How do I confirm this kit fits my Honda outboard?
A: Please check the "Compatible Engine Models" table on this page. Verify that your specific model, horsepower, and series (e.g., BF8D, BF15D) are listed. Cross-referencing your existing part number with our list also helps ensure a correct match.
Q: What are the signs my impeller is failing and needs replacement?
A: Common signs include the engine overheating, an engine alarm sounding, or a weak or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet port. Regular inspection is recommended, typically annually or every 100 hours of use.
Q: What lubricant should I use during installation?
A: For best results and to prevent damage during first startup, lubricate the impeller and housing with silicone grease, glycerine, or dish soap. Important: Never run the pump dry, as it will damage the new impeller instantly.
Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.
Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.
Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.
